I did a yoga retreat course in yoga ashram in Aranmula, kerala. It was a one to one program which helped me to move deeper into the philosophies and practices of yoga. And the guide was a woman. It was the one place where the ashtanga was combined with bhakti and tantra yoga , the classes were interesting. |

I wanted to share this with you all. Today i had a really bad experience involving a parking space outside my sons school, and a VERY irrate other parent who felt that was her space.... futile, her anger was so extreme and so threatening (and i feel SO not to do with the parking space) i've had to contact the police, needless to say i was in quite a state when i finally managed to collect my son and get him home. This continued until i got him off to bed and forced myself to do my Yoga. It's amazing...... i'm so calm now! Not only do i not feel angry..... i dont care at all... totally chilled! I am officially converted/addicted!And... looking on the bright side amongst her varied and colourful insults and threats.... she didnt say i was fat! |

Hello,
I have just completed a 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training in the USA, although I live and practice in the UK.
Can any yoga teachers here recommend an insurer that will accept my American Qualification?
Namaste,
Hilary

I did my training at 'It's Yoga' in San Francisco - an Ashtanga School.
They are certified by Yoga Alliance, but I see this is different from Yoga Alliance UK (whose website doesn't seem to work so I can't find the information I need). |

DSC Insurance Services, give them a call on 01252735133. I'm sure they do other yoga and therapy cover but if you are a Sivananda trained teacher, you get a good deal, because so many of us are insured with them.

| Pregnancy Yoga |

What does everyone think about so many 'pregnancy'yoga classes now being available. I hear that some teachers are trained in only one weekend (it costing £495!) without having any prior knowledge of teaching or doing yoga and become specialists in pregnancy yoga. The organisations that set up these training courses are irresponsible dont you think? In many schools of yoga you need several years of teaching yoga to the general public before specialising in pregnancy, remedial, childrens classes etc. |

Have you actually done any research yourself on the Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training?
I did some research as I wanted to add Pregnancy Yoga to my teaching and I did not come across one course taught in a weekend or a course that did not require you to be a trained yoga teacher already. You will find courses that are spread over weekends, mine was two long weekends, six days in all. Between workshops your had assingments to be completed and had to observe pregnancy yoga classes. But I would be horrified at the thought that you can learn to teach pregnancy yoga without any prior yoga training. Thankfully, I could not find such a course. |

Yes I have done my research and one of the most famous institutions for training teachers in this way does say 'does not have to be a practitioner of yoga' but can have an interest. Also 'would welcome health practitioners'. My point is that I feel people should know 'yoga' inside out before they teach it to pregnant women. I am a yoga teacher and I know of several people who have trained in this way and say 'well - its not really yoga anyway just stretching'. Some of the videos/photographs i have seen would bear this out. I am not saying these organisations are not well-intentioned but I do not think they should put it under the name of 'yoga'. Another aspect is the'baby yoga' ! No such thing!I feel organisations have latched onto the'yoga' word cos it is popular these days, 20 years ago no-one would be interested. |

that is a really scary thought 'does not have to be a practitioner of yoga'. I agree, you should know your yoga before embarking on yoga for pregnancy. When I did my Yoga Teacher Training, we cover yoga for pregnancy but I felt it was not enough I did not have the confidence to teach pregnant women. I found a good yoga pregnancy course, which required a yoga cv, also explaining your reason for wanting to teach pregnancy yoga. I learnt so much on the course, it is frightening to think that pregnancy yoga can be cover in two days, IT CAN'T! |

Mike, I'm female! But in light of recent press about the 'man' having a baby state side, I'd be happy to teach him prenatal too. As yet I have never had a guy in my class with a beer belly. |

I relate to the above comments. I teach pregnancy yoga and the specialist training was also 6 days. My background is yoga, complementary and occupational therapy and healing, and also NCT teacher training many moons ago. I will say though, that one person on the course who was a midwife was allowed to train as she was going to embark on yoga teacher training course. It did not make sense to me as she did not really understand basic postures let alone how to correct and adapt to the pregnant womans needs. She was highly strung and overwraught....not a good energy to be around...yoga is a way of life and being, and as teachers we hold the energetic space for students and in pregnancy yoga for the incoming souls too....I had grave reservations about this woman on the course. She is now trying to set up classes and has still NOT begun basic teacher training!!! I too thought there was a minimum requirement of 3 years teaching before embarking on this specialist area!
Linda :-) |
