cindycyrox wrote on 25 August 2010

Mood. Hi lovely people,

Please can anyone help me out by telling me about the TTC in Merlo Argentina.

I would like to know what the accommodation is like as well as the quality of the TTC.

Would you recommend this Ashram?

Any idea what the weather is like during the months of October/November in Argentina?

Om Shanti

 Pranayama Qigong
Ian responded on 16 August 2010

Mood. Luke,
Pranayama is not something you should be playing around with by yourself. why not join a class where pranayama is practiced as part of the session.seek proper clear instruction and ease yourself into the practice. pranayama is a discipline which should be balanced with asana practice, and under the guidence of a caring experienced teacher. you have years to develop your practice ,so take your time ,try to stay with one teacher or branch of yoga for a few years at least so you don't end up recieving conflicting instruction and opinions.
Namaste,

 Yoga Teacher training course
meenakshi wrote on 03 August 2010

Mood. Hi,According to me yoga is the best method for maintaining our body.Swami Vishnu-devananda was the first in the West to develop a training program for yoga teachers. He did this not only with the vision to develop yoga professionals, but also to give sincere aspirants the skills of personal discipline and to develop messengers of peace.

The Course is a profound, personal experience, based on the ancient gurukula teaching system, integrating the student's daily life into the yoga training.

Mood. Greetings
Hi, According to me yoga is very beneficial for everyone. Doing yoga exercise regularly offers many benefits, including making you feel better about your body as you become stronger and more flexible, toning your muscles, reducing stress, and improving your mental and physical well-being. : Practicing any type of yoga will build strength. select and how frequently you practice it.If you plan to make yoga your primary form of exercise, you must do a vigorous 90-minute yoga class at least three times a week. Many people also choose to combine yoga with running, walking or other aerobic exercise in order to reach their goals. You need a trained yoga teacher for doing yoga.

 Pilates Teacher Certification
Ian responded on 31 July 2010

Mood. What a nice little money making scheme. Pilates is not yoga and any decent yoga teacher training course will give you all that you need to deepen your understanding of yoga and teach it correctly. Yoga is not just a series of body motions but a discipline which has been around for thousands of years and will continue to be here long after pilates has fizzled out. The above post sounds just like something that has been dreamed up by the fitness,Reps, sports scene.
Pilates may be usefull in building some core strength but it really has nothing to do with yoga.

 kids yoga - london
welephant wrote on 26 July 2010

Mood. I just finished a children's yoga teaching training course and wanted to try and share the experience with you.

a rich and powerful way of teaching yoga to children of all ages, divided into various age groups, and goes through every aspect of teaching yoga to children, the emphasis being on having fun!!!

How to capture the children's attention and make them want to learn more, avoiding discipline problems.. Games and many many ways of getting children to stay longer in the positions, to get to know their bodies to meet other children, ways of working with their breath, and to slowly learn to appreciate “quiet time”..

I would strongly advice this brief but intense course to anyone who would like to teach yoga to children, perhaps who have tried, but thought it too difficult. Children don't learn the same way as adults!
In 3 days we learnt an incredible amount and had so much fun!

I am now left with a 400 page manual to study and truckloads of energy to start my journey teaching children!

Mood. 'all poses'! How many are there? My guess is that there are as many as the leaves on a tree in the height of summer.

Who are 'we'? And what sort of video production? One would enquire if you had contacted any of the centres in London who may have a teacher happy to oblige. This leads me to question your motives.

A little more info maybe!?

Im finding it hard to get focused for the rest of my practise without doing my sun salut's first and wondering if anyone can offer any help, advice and wisdom on what I can do to get my body and mind ready instead?

Mood. The physical aspect of Yoga is just one of the eight limbs of Yoga, as offered to us in 'The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali' so prehaps you could use this healing time to study the other limbs.

I know it is hard when injury or illness gets in the way of asanas, but use this time to deepen your understanding and knowledge of Yoga.

Have patience and don't rush.

 Bio-Hotel Florian Austrian Ashram
Janine wrote on 19 June 2010

Mood. Hi,

I am hoping to stay at Bio Hotel Florian opposite the Sivananda Ashram in Austria. I will be taking a Yoga Vacation at the end of this month. I have booked my flights and I am about to pay for the accommodation at the hotel. But before I do that, can anyone tell me what the hotel is really like? Is the food good quality, what are the staff like? Is the Ashram really just opposite the hotel and is it a nice Ashram to practice in?

There were only two reviews that I found on the internet, written in German and when translated, I didn't find them useful.

Namaste

 Bikram joints concern
christine wrote on 08 June 2010

Mood. I have been practicing Bikram three times a week for the last eight months, and I am considering switching to yoga held in an unheated room. I am not seeking to open up a round of Bikram bashing and would ask for sensible balanced replys. I went onto an American BIKRAM forum and it was filled with post after post of students leaving Bikram, many of whom complained that their knee and joint conditions have actually got worse since practicing Bikram.Apparently there has also been a study which suggests that practicing in extreem heat conditions can speed up arthritic conditions. This has made me quite worried as I have joint conditions and one of the Reasons I took up Bikram was because I thought practicing in heat would help.I tried asking fellow students but most seem to be trying out bikram on a ten class card ,others do not seem to have been practicing for a great length of time,in fact long term students seem to be scarce.I know if I approach an instructor they will tell me how good bikram is.

I would be gratefull to hear from anybody with medical knowledge or ex students. Also any opinions on locking knees in standing postures.

Thanks.

 Bikram joints concern

Mood. OK this time I won't bash bikram. I recall that locking the knees is very bad news, in Ashtanga (some strong similarites to bikram but less extreem). The rule is NOT to lock the knees as this causes joint damage - almost lock but not quite.

Just my tuppence worth.

 Bikram joints concern
Catherine responded on 25 June 2010

Mood. Hi Joints Concern
I am a vinyasa flow/power yoga teacher. Throughout all my trainings I was taught NOT to lock/hyperextend the knee joint, which is done in some Bikram poses, as it can cause future problems. My teacher who has practiced for over 35 years has had small cysts removed from the backs of her knees and now is adamant that locking the knee is not correct. One must be cautious doing yoga in hot rooms as there is the possibilty of over stretching the ligaments and applying too much pressure on joints as they warm up so fast. Power yoga uses the bodies own internal heat to warm up slowly and safely.Listening to your body is vital to your safety and hot rooms can remove a little of the control you have over this. If you are worried try different styles. Eventually you will find one that makes you feel strong and safe.
