Ashrams and Retreat to work and live

Yee  wrote on the 11 May 2007

Hello dear all, I just came back from India due to visa problem, but would still love to stay in the spiritual life. Does anyone know of any ashrams/retreats which would let people stay for a very minimum cost or for free or even get paid for providing some seva/service?
Pls email me thanks
Yee

Dear Yee

If only! I think you will be hard pushed to find such a place. How long were you planning on staying?

The Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales charges £132 per week (£180 in the summer.) I think the Brahma Kumaris retreat centres give retreats for free, but you're talking two days only & you are encouraged to give a donation. They do have people living & working there, but obviously these are brothers & sisters who have been in the BK community for years.

Sorry I can't tell you what you want to hear, but this is the reality of it.

Jay

World As Lover, World As Self includes an introduction by Thich Nhat Hanh. It is a book offering a world view, the collective emotional, spiritual and physical "damage" we all carry from past conditioning and a way forward. A holistic Buddhist view without pushing a specific remedy but showing just how collectively damaged the world has become.
